I’ll put these thoughts, A New Rebel, in bite size articles so you can keep up…
There is a new breed of thought processes coming out these days. Actually, they’ve been around for some time, but recently they are starting to really stir up a storm and seep deeper and deeper into the American culture and around the world. Much like the 60’s uncovered in their time, we’ve uncovered a new kind of rebel today… a new kind of atheist… New Atheism.
While this whole movement, or, thought process isn’t actually “new”, it is taking on new life, and a new boldness as it moves forward.
A New Atheists web site quotes:
Tolerance of pervasive myth and superstition in modern society is not a virtue. Religious fundamentalism has gone main stream and its toll on education, science, and social progress is disheartening. Wake up people!! We are smart enough now to kill our invisible gods and oppressive beliefs. It is the responsibility of the educated to educate the uneducated, lest we fall prey to the tyranny of ignorance.
There has been an onslought of books, news articles, television shows, and so on attacking religion, and mainly Christianity, as well as new age, humanistic, postmodern viewpoints, and even within the church…
Books in the past year or two:
Richard Dawkins – The God Delusion
Christopher Hitchens – God is Not Great, How Religion Poisons Everything
Sam Harris – The End of Faith
Eckhart Tolle – The Power Of Now
and so many more…
Here are some news articles I’ve come across in the past few weeks in our culture, which I hope to expound on as we go:
“Humanists Offended at Polling Held in Churches”
“Religious Inner Meditation Sect Files Law Suit for not being able to place a monument of its principles next to a Ten Commandments exhibit in a public park”
“Transgender Female turned Male get’s Pregnant and says ”I’m a person, and have a right to have my own biological child”
“New course released and a big hit called, A Course In Miracles, states My Salvation Comes From Me“|
“Atheist Sunday School Teaches Kids Morality”
“Oprah quoted saying There can’t possilby be just one way to Jesus!”
What is going on here?!? I am suddenly reminded of a quote from Alice in Wonderland,
“If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is because everything would be what it isn’t, and contrary wise; what it is wouldn’t be, and what it wouldn’t be, it would. You see?”
More to come…
