Oprah’s God

Okay, I’m not going to beat a dead horse here, so don’t worry, but you knew it was coming… I’ve already posted something on her past endorsement of The Secret, which you can read here.

Gnosticism. New Age. Heresy. Neo-Gnosticism.  Call it what you will.  I’ve seen and heard about enough of Oprah Winfrey’s new religion (which actually, isn’t new at all).  She’s been backing, and completely bought in to teachings by Ekhart Tolle, “A New Earth – Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose,” and “The Power of Now.” along with the ideas of “A Course In Miracles.”

Now, as a Christian, I’m just going to give you the perspective I believe to be true.  I would love to go through and talk about some of the potentially good things this book might be doing for people, but, in actuality I haven’t read it, and I don’t care to, so I won’t.  However, there are just too many dangerous points in this book and course she is teaching, to be taken lightly… I’ll be short, and let you listen and watch for yourself…

Various quotes:

The Oprah Show:
Oprah: “There are many paths to what you call God.”
Audience Member: “There is one way and only one way and that is through Jesus.”
Oprah: “There couldn’t possibly be just one way!”

A Course In Miracles, Lesson 70:
Titled – “My Salvation Comes From Me”
“All temptation is nothing more than some form of the basic temptation not to believe the idea for today. Salvation seems to come from anywhere except from you. So, too, does the source of guilt. You see neither guilt nor salvation as in your own mind and nowhere else. When you realize that all guilt is solely an invention of your mind, you also realize that guilt and salvation must be in the same place. In understanding this you are saved.”

The Orprah Show:
Audience Member: “How do you reconcile the spiritual teachings with your Christian beleifs?”
Oprah: “…because I was able to open my mind about the absolute indescribable hugeness of that which we call God. I took God out of the box… I happened to be sitting in church… and the minister was preaching about how “the Lord thy God is a jealous God,”… Something struck me… God is jealous?… Something about that didn’t feel right in my spirit.  That’s when the search for something more than doctrine started to stir within me.  Ekart has a quote in chapter 1. “Man made God in his own image, the eternal, the infinite, the unnameable was reduced to a mental idol that you had to believe in and worship as my God or our God,” and that is eloquently put by him…”
“What I believe is that Jesus came to show us Christ’s concieousness, to show us the way of the heart, to show us the higher conciousness that we’re all talking about here… I don’t believe Jesus came to start Christianity.”

God love her, she’s done a lot of great things for people over the years, I just think she’s lost.  She got misled somewhere along the way, and now she’s misleading others.  It’s a sad, sad thing.

So, I’ve said enough… Watch this video if you have 9 minutes… or at least watch the first 3.5 minutes and see for yourself:

  1. You seem to be saying that “there is only one way to God”.

I have three points 1) What do you mean by “way”
    2) How do you know there is only one way?
    3) What do you mean by ‘God’ ?

  2. OPRAH … from spending several years in Jeremiah Wright’s anti-American racist church, listening to sermons like “God Damn America”, and giving life time achievement awards to the likes of Louis Farrakhan … to her newest opportunistic religious beliefs … who could possibly take Oprah seriously? This woman’s ego is soooo big, being a billionaire celebrity isn’t enough, she has to start her own religion … not to mention all the additional money she is going to make selling all those book, tapes, CD’s, etc. to her poor followers. Oprah’s new power hungry ambitions include efforts to replace traditional America with Obama … and access to a President she puts into office … to her efforts at replacing Christianity with a new religion she controls. I think it’s time for America to deny Oprah access to our television sets.
